Community Involvement

Our companies have a deep-rooted commitment to serving our communities. That commitment starts at the top with our management team, and employees are encouraged to be involved in local organizations that help make our communities better places to live and work.

United Way

FBL is recognized by United Way of Central Iowa in their Leaders in Giving as a corporate investor that takes the lead in embracing United Way's mission "to improve lives by uniting the caring power of our community." Employees in all our locations participate in United Way by donating time and money, and their contributions stay in the communities where they are made.

In connection with United Way of Central Iowa's Day of Caring, FBL employees at the West Des Moines home office hold an annual Week of Caring. They build and decorate serviceable items, such as picnic tables, book shelves and benches, which are donated to United Way agencies. The building, painting and decorating take place on the FBL campus, and employees work on them during the work day.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

Our management, employees and agents have contributed nearly $500,000 to JDRF since 1996. As a result of those efforts, FBL has received both the Gold and Platinum Achievement Awards from JDRF. In 2000, FBL received the World Achievement Award. FBL continually ranks in the top five companies in Iowa supporting the JDRF walk in Des Moines, which is one of the largest walks in the country.

American Heart Association

FBL leads the way in successful and fun fundraising ideas for the annual American Heart Walk.
